Detailed Itinerary
Day 1:Dehradun to Gangotri
Drive from Dehradun to Gangotri (10,203 ft) via Uttarkashi. Approximately 10-11 hours. Check permits, rest, and acclimatize. Overnight in guesthouse.
Day 2:Gangotri to Chirbasa
Begin trek alongside Bhagirathi River. Gradual ascent through birch forests to Chirbasa campsite (11,700 ft). Trek duration: 4-5 hours.
Day 3:Chirbasa to Bhojbasa
Continue trek above the tree line. Sparse vegetation and rocky terrain. Reach Bhojbasa (12,467 ft) with views of Bhagirathi peaks. Trek duration: 5-6 hours.
Day 4:Bhojbasa to Gaumukh to Tapovan
Trek to Gaumukh glacier (13,000 ft). Pay respects and witness the source of Ganga. Challenging ascent on glacier and moraine to reach Tapovan meadows (14,203 ft). Trek duration: 6-7 hours.
Day 5:Explore Tapovan
Rest and acclimatization day. Explore Tapovan meadows, visit nearby viewpoints for Shivling views, interact with sadhus. Optional exploration of surrounding areas.
Day 6:Tapovan to Bhojbasa
Descend from Tapovan to Bhojbasa. Trek duration: 5-6 hours. Overnight at camp.
Day 7:Bhojbasa to Gangotri to Dehradun
Descend to Gangotri (4-5 hours trek). Drive back to Dehradun. Arrive late evening.
